3 Creamy Greek Yogurt Sauces to Upgrade Almost Any Meal
Sometimes a simple sauce is all it takes to make an everyday meal feel completely different.
Greek yogurt is one of my favorite bases for creamy homemade sauces because it’s fresh, slightly tangy, naturally contains protein, and is incredibly easy to customize. In many dips, dressings and spreads, it can also be used as an alternative to mayonnaise. Depending on the yogurt and recipe you choose, it may provide more protein and fewer calories than the same amount of traditional mayonnaise.
But this isn’t about removing mayonnaise from the kitchen. Sometimes mayo is exactly what a recipe needs. Greek yogurt simply gives us another creamy option with its own flavor, texture and plenty of ways to use it.
And that’s where these three sauces get interesting.
Serve them cold over warm salmon, chicken, potatoes or vegetables for a fresh contrast, use them as dips and spreads, or experiment with seasoned yogurt as a marinade or coating before cooking.
Then change them again: more lemon for extra tang, chili for heat, herbs for freshness or a touch of honey for sweetness.
Here are three easy Greek yogurt sauces to start with.
🍋 Lemon Dill Greek Yogurt Sauce
Fresh, bright and herby, this one is especially good with salmon, chicken, roasted potatoes and vegetables.
Ingredients
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh dill
1 small garlic clove, finely grated
1 teaspoon olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
How to Make It
Add the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, lemon zest, dill, garlic and olive oil to a small bowl.
Mix until smooth and creamy.
Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, then taste before adding anything else.
If you have time, refrigerate the sauce for about 15–30 minutes before serving. This gives the garlic, dill and lemon a little time to come together.
💚 HEALTIPS Tip: Start gently with raw garlic. Its flavor becomes stronger while the sauce rests.
🍯 Smoky Honey-Dijon Greek Yogurt Sauce
Creamy, slightly sweet, tangy and smoky — this sauce has a completely different personality.
It works especially well with chicken, roasted potatoes, wraps and grain bowls.
Ingredients
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
1½ tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons honey
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper
How to Make It
Add the Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard and honey to a bowl and whisk until completely combined.
Stir in the lemon juice, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt and black pepper.
Taste and adjust the flavor to your preference.
💚 HEALTIPS Tip: Let this sauce rest in the refrigerator for a few minutes before serving. The smoky and mustard flavors become more noticeable as it sits.
Creamy Tahini Greek Yogurt Sauce
Greek yogurt and tahini create a rich, creamy sauce with a slightly nutty flavor.
This one is perfect with roasted vegetables, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, grain bowls and Mediterranean-style meals.
Ingredients
¾ cup plain Greek yogurt
¼ cup tahini
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 small garlic clove, grated
2–4 tablespoons cold water
½ teaspoon salt
Black pepper to taste
How to Make It
Combine the Greek yogurt, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, salt and black pepper.
The mixture may become quite thick at first — that’s completely normal.
Add cold water one tablespoon at a time, stirring after each addition, until you reach the consistency you want.
Keep it thick for dipping or add a little more water for a drizzle-style sauce.
💚 HEALTIPS Tip: Add the water gradually. It’s much easier to thin the sauce than to rescue one that has become too runny.
Serve It Cold or Cook With It
One of the best things about a Greek yogurt sauce is that it can play completely different roles depending on how you use it.
Serve It Cold
Cold yogurt sauce is especially good when you want to freshen up a warm meal.
Try lemon-dill yogurt over freshly baked salmon, smoky Honey-Dijon alongside warm chicken, or tahini yogurt spooned over roasted sweet potato.
That contrast between hot food and cool creamy sauce can completely change a simple plate.
Use It Before Cooking
Seasoned Greek yogurt can also be used as part of a marinade or coating before cooking.
Chicken and salmon can both be coated with seasoned yogurt before baking. Once heated, the yogurt changes texture and becomes part of the cooked dish rather than tasting like the fresh sauce you would serve straight from the refrigerator.
Greek yogurt can sometimes separate when exposed to high heat, so it generally works better as a marinade or baked coating than as a sauce that is boiled directly.
Make Your Sauce Your Way
Once you know the basic formula, you can customize almost any Greek yogurt sauce without starting another recipe from scratch.
Small adjustments can make the exact same sauce feel completely different.
🍽️ Easy Ways to Turn Them Into Dinner
You don’t need another complicated recipe.
Start with something simple and let the sauce do most of the work.
Salmon + Lemon Dill Yogurt
This sauce works beautifully with salmon in two completely different ways.
Serve It Cold
Season the salmon with a little olive oil, salt and black pepper, then bake until cooked through.
Serve the warm salmon with a generous spoonful of cold Lemon Dill Yogurt Sauce on top or alongside it. Add a fresh salad, roasted vegetables or potatoes for an easy dinner.
The cool, lemony yogurt against the warm salmon is especially fresh and refreshing.
Bake It With the Yogurt
For a different result, spread a thin layer o
f the Lemon Dill Yogurt mixture over the salmon before baking.
Arrange the fillets in a baking dish with vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, red onion or lemon slices, then bake everything together.
As the yogurt cooks, it becomes part of the coating and creates a softer, creamier finish than the cold version.
Chicken + Smoky Honey-Dijon Yogurt
Season chicken breast with paprika, garlic, salt, black pepper and a little olive oil.
Bake or grill until completely cooked through, allow it to rest, then slice.
Spoon the cold smoky Honey-Dijon yogurt over the chicken or serve it on the side.
Add a colorful salad and roasted potatoes or sweet potato and you have a simple dinner that feels much more complete.
Leftovers are also great inside a wrap with lettuce, tomato and cucumber.
Roasted Sweet Potato or Eggplant with Tahini Yogurt
Roasted sweet potato or eggplant works beautifully with the creamy tahini yogurt sauce. The warm vegetables, cool sauce and fresh toppings make this feel much more interesting than a basic side dish.
For the vegetables:
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, halvedor
2 medium eggplants, halved or cut into thick slices
1–2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and black pepper
For serving:
Tahini Greek yogurt sauce
Fresh parsley, chopped
Toasted pine nuts
Optional: a pinch of sumac or chili flakes
How to Make It
Brush the sweet potato or eggplant lightly with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.
Roast at 400°F / 200°C until soft inside and golden around the edges. Sweet potatoes will usually need around 35–45 minutes, while eggplant may be ready a little sooner depending on thickness.
Transfer to a serving plate and spoon a generous amount of the cool tahini yogurt sauce over the warm vegetables.
Finish with plenty of fresh parsley and a small handful of toasted pine nuts.
💚 HEALTIPS Tip: Toast the pine nuts for just a few minutes before serving. It makes a surprisingly big difference in flavor.
For a little extra brightness, finish with fresh lemon or a pinch of sumac.
🥗 And Don’t Stop There
The three sauces can easily move between different meals.
Try Lemon Dill Yogurt with roasted potatoes, grilled vegetables, fish or as a fresh dip for cucumber.
Use Smoky Honey-Dijon Yogurt in chicken wraps, sandwiches, roasted potato bowls or as a dip.
Drizzle Tahini Yogurt over cauliflower, eggplant, chickpeas, grain bowls or roasted vegetables.
One sauce made today can easily become part of several different meals.
💚 A Creamy Alternative to Mayo
Greek yogurt can work as an easy alternative to mayonnaise in many creamy dressings, dips and spreads.
Depending on the products and quantities used, plain Greek yogurt will often contain more protein and fewer calories than traditional mayonnaise, while still giving sauces that creamy texture we’re looking for.
But the flavor isn't identical — and that’s actually part of the fun.
Greek yogurt has its own fresh, slightly tangy taste, and ingredients such as lemon, mustard, tahini, fresh herbs and spices give you plenty of ways to build completely different flavors around it.
Think of it less as “giving something up” and more as having another useful ingredient in your kitchen.
🛍️ A Few Kitchen Finds That Make It Easier
You definitely don’t need special equipment for these recipes, but there are a few kitchen pieces that make preparing, baking and serving them a little easier.
Ceramic Baking Dishes
A good ceramic baking dish is useful for salmon, chicken, vegetables and easy one-pan dinners.
I especially like dishes that are pretty enough to go straight from the oven to the table.

💙 A Little Joy in the Details
One of my favorite parts of cooking is actually the final step — choosing a beautiful plate and putting everything together.
For me, presentation is part of the experience.
Even a very simple dinner feels a little more special when it’s served on a plate I genuinely love. I enjoy playing with colors, shapes and different styles of tableware almost as much as I enjoy preparing the food itself.
A colorful salad suddenly looks brighter. A simple piece of salmon can feel restaurant-worthy. Even chicken and roasted vegetables become more inviting when everything is arranged beautifully.
You absolutely don’t need fancy dishes to make good food.
But beautiful tableware is one of those small details that simply makes cooking and serving food more enjoyable for me.
I’ve been finding some beautiful serving plates and dishes lately, including the blue plates you may have noticed in the photos.
If you enjoy that part of cooking too, I’ve linked a few similar finds below.
